A repository license (earlier known as a perpetual license) is a special type of license that is available on the local computer even when the computer is no longer within the network. This functionality is ensured when a vendor has generated a repository license (instead of a stand-alone or network license) and the license has been successfully obtained at least once from the RMS License Manager in the network. Thereafter, the license can be used on a stand-alone system as many times as desired—lasting up to the license expiration date.

However, to make it available on the network,
it must be checked-in the same manner like a commuter license.
